Quest 2 matter

Rules and Regulations

The Quest2Matter challenges students to ACCEPT that they matter, to ACCELERATE the message that everyone matters, and to ACT, in their community and around the world, to solve problems that break their heart. The Quest2Matter connects students to information and mentors to guide them on taking effective action in today's world.

All participants ("Participants") in the Quest2Matter will have the opportunity for their quests to be recognized. Judges will assess quests in accordance with these Official Rules ("Rules") and selected quests will be highlighted on the Choose2Matter or Quest2Matter Website or in publications of our Partners ("Highlighted Quests"). Students associated with other selected quests ("Spotlighted Quests") will be honored at ceremonies to be held in September 2013 at the BAMMY Awards in Washington DC and the Business Innovation Factory Summit in Providence, RI. The Sponsor will make reasonable efforts to assist the students behind Spotlighted Quests with fundraising to help subsidize the cost of attending these ceremonies, although there is no assurance adequate funds will be raised. There are no limits on the number of people on each team; however, a maximum of seven people associated with each Spotlighted Quest, including students and accompanying adults, may attend these ceremonies.

The Quest2Matter is sponsored by Choose2Matter, Inc. (Sponsor).

In order to enter the Quest2Matter, you must agree to these Rules. Therefore, please read these Rules to ensure you understand and agree. You agree that submission of a quest constitutes agreement to be bound by these Rules. These Rules form a binding legal agreement between you and the Sponsor with respect to the Quest2Matter.

For purposes of determining Highlighted Quests and Spotlighted Quests, the Quest2Matter is open to individuals or teams of students between the ages of 5-18, located anywhere in the world, who have agreed to these Rules, except the employees of the Sponsor and members of their immediate families. Participants may enter multiple quests. Participants under 18 years of age must demonstrate the consent of a parent, legal guardian, teacher or school official in order to be eligible to be highlighted or spotlighted. Participants under 13 years of age must submit a quest through one of the methods set out in Section 7.B. below.

For purposes of determining Spotlighted Quests for the 2012-2013 school year, the Quest2Matter begins at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time on April 15, 2013, and ends at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Jun 07, 2013 ("Quest Period"). Students may submit quests after the end of the Quest Period, but they will not be considered for Spotlight Quests for this year.

In order to participate in the Quest2Matter, students must submit a quest through one of three means:

    A. Students aged 13 and up shall register and submit quests through the principal website for the Quest2Matter at

    B. Students under 13 shall submit a quest through the account of a teacher, librarian or other sponsoring educator or parent on the Web site located at, as described in the FAQ, or through an alternative means set forth in the FAQ.

The content of a quest must not include any content that is in violation of or infringes third party intellectual property rights including, but not limited to copyrights, including music copyrights, trademarks, and rights of publicity. It also must not include any unsuitable or offensive content, including nudity, sexually explicit, disparaging, libelous or other inappropriate content.

Each quest will be judged by members of the staff of Choose2Matter and our partners. Each quest determined by the judges to be a good faith effort will be deemed a completed quest, and is eligible for consideration. Decisions in this matter are in the sole discretion of the judges and shall be final and binding. In selecting the Spotlighted Quests and the Highlighted Quests, judges will consider the impact of the quest on the world, whether it was a one-time quest or is ongoing, the ingenuity behind it, the degree to which it solves a problem, and other intangible attributes, as the judges in their sole discretion decide to consider. The judges intend to choose Spotlight Quests and Highlighted Quests from a broad range of schools, in terms of size, geographic location and other attributes and from a broad range of topics. All winners will be notified by June 30, 2013.

In selecting the Spotlighted Quests for the Business Innovation Factory Summit, judges will consider the following:

Does your quest change the world for the better? Great ideas dare to question the normal ways of doing things. They also dare us to do things that many others may disagree with. We're looking for rule breakers who are working hard to bring their big idea to light.

What have you done in the real world with your idea? We're looking for stories about things that have actually happened (as opposed to things you want to have happen). Stories of failing are welcome too - especially if you picked yourself up and kept on going. That's because true innovation comes from trying things all the time. And most of us can't make our big ideas real without making mistakes along the way.

Can you get personal and tell a great story? Great social change begins with something personal. We'll be looking for students who can share a first-hand story (preferably through video) and inspire others to make their own impact.

  9. TAXES:

All winners are subject to pay any appropriate taxes.

The recognition of certain quests comes without warranty of any kind from the Sponsor, express or implied, without limitation, except where this would be contrary to federal, state or local laws or regulations. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Submission of a quest constitutes agreement by the Participant to the terms and conditions of these Rules. Decisions of the Sponsor and the Judges are final and binding on all matters pertaining to this Quest2Matter.

Each Participant represents and warrants to the Sponsor as follows: (i) the quest is the Participant's own original, previously unpublished and previously unproduced work; (ii) the quest neither infringes upon nor violates the intellectual property rights or other rights of any other person or entity; and (iii) the quest does not and will not violate any applicable laws, and complies with these Rules.

Any false information provided within the context of the Quest2Matter by any Participant concerning identity, mailing address, telephone number, e-mail address, ownership of right or non-compliance with these Rules or the like may result in the immediate disqualification from the Quest2Matter. We further reserve the right to disqualify any quest that we believe in our sole discretion infringes upon or violates the rights of any third party, or otherwise does not comply with these Rules.

By entering the Quest2Matter, each Participant agrees that exclusive jurisdiction for any dispute, claim or demand related in any way to the Quest2Matter will be decided by binding arbitration. You agree that the exclusive venue for any dispute between you and the Sponsor of whatsoever kind or nature arising out of these Rules or the Quest2Matter shall be Nassau County, N.Y.

A list of winners will appear after August 1, 2013, on
  15. Sponsor is not responsible for late or misdirected quests or technical malfunctions and may suspend, modify or terminate the Quest2Matter in the latter event. In the event of early termination, judging and selection of winners will take place using eligible quests received prior to termination.
  16. You and your parents agree that submission of an quest grants the Sponsor the non-exclusive right to publish, edit and/or copy the quest for any and all purposes in any media (including but not limited to print and digital media) without further compensation to the entrant.
